The Language Center of the National University of Colombia, Medellin Campus, is an academic unit affiliated with the campus' Vice-Rectorate. It offers foreign language training programs to facilitate language learning for the university community and the general public. At the same time, it offers Spanish language programs for non-Spanish speakers from other parts of the world that are interested in learning Spanish. Its high-quality standards of education, which are framed by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), take into account the students’ intercultural necessities and expectations for the acquisition of linguistic and sociolinguistic competences.
This program is intended for non-Spanish speakers that have contact with the academic community such as visiting professors, assistant professors from other countries, grantees, interns, foreign master's and doctoral students, undergraduate students and students in study abroad and language-learning programs from foreign universities which have established agreements with our institution; and they are also intended for the interested public of the city of Medellín. .
Specific Objectives
- To train those enrolled in the program to effectively use Spanish as a permanent and lasting form of oral and written communication.
- To prepare the students to pass each of the CEFR levels so that they may seek out a Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE).
- To enable the students to have greater control of their own learning process and to be able to continue learning independently once the course is over.
- To promote, by means of the Spanish language, a better understanding between Hispanic culture and the student's home country, and to transmit an authentic and positive image of Colombian society and culture.
- To contribute to the development of attitudes and values of respect for the international society, such as cultural and linguistic pluralism, acceptance, and appreciation of diversity and cultural differences.
